PM Roble Meets DPM Guled & Speaker Hashi As Division Over Somaliland Poll Body Widens

Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has met with Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guleid and Somali Upper House Speaker Abdi Hashi.

The meeting came after Somali Upper House Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi warned northern regional electoral commission against holding a unilateral election.

Speaking at a conference on Sunday, the coalition led by politicians from Somaliland, Hashi warned that they will hold a parallel election if it's rival faction decides hold an election.

"We are not seeking a position but a solution. There are reports that some are planning to  hold an election, we will also hold a parallel election." Hashi said

The speaker said that Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled's faction wants to hold its own elections without resolving the dispute within the commission.

Differences within the Somaliland Electoral Commission deepens although Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said a solution would be found to the dispute between politicians from the northern regions of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Guleid and Speaker Hashi have been at loggerheads over the composition of the interim electoral body which shall be responsible for the elections of lawmakers representing Somaliland at the Federal Parliament.

The Somaliland question remains the only  contentious issue as other regional states ironed out issues with the Federal Government of Somalia.
