Somali leaders condemn bomb attack against players in Kismayo

Somali President Mohamed Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Roble have condemned the attack in Kismayo, which left at least four players dead and several others injured. In separate statements, Farmaajo and Roble sent their condolences to the families of the players who lost their lives.  "President Farmajo sends his profound condolences to families and all Somali people for the loss of football players who were killed in Sunday's cowardly terrorist blast in Kismayo," the president said in a statement.  The president blamed the attack on Al-Shabaab militants. Jubaland state president Ahmed Islam Madobe, also condemned the attack in a statement. ''Al-Shabaab is determined to target everyone by deliberately targeting influential people such as youth. I call on all Somalis to unite to defeat this group and save the rest of our society,'' read part of the statement. The players of the Jubbaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry club were due for a game at the Kismayo city stadium when the blast hit their vehicle. The match was to be attended by Jubaland President Ahmed Islam and his deputy. The attack occurred a day after Jubaland state commenced elections and elected senators. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack but Al-Qaeda linked group Al-Shabaab. The group has been fighting the internationally recognized government, claimed responsibility for Sunday's terror attack.
