Galmudug Critizes Ilhan Omar Stand Against US Airstrikes On Alshabaab

Galmudug regional state security minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has called on Somali-American congresswoman, Ilhan Omar to join the fight against Al-Shabaab militants. In a Facebook post, the Regional State Security Minister critized the letter addressed to Biden over the renewal of US airstrikes against Al-Shabaab fighters by Ilhan to support the militants. ''Our daughter Ilhaan should not be the spokesperson of Al-Shabaab, did you not know that on June 27, 2021, more than thirty people, mostly civilians, were massacred by terrorists in Wisil,'' Galmudug Security Minister said adding ''The airstrikes destroyed the sites where the commander of the 21st Division and the and deputy commander of Danab forces in Galmudug were killed,'' he added. The security minister also thanked the US military support for the Somali government over the airstrikes against Al-Shabaab fighters in the past days. On Friday an airstrike targeted Al-Shabaab militants in the vicinity of Qeycad, Galmudug state described the strike as having a “crippling” impact on the Shabab fighters. “Al-Shabab’s tactics are no match for the Danab (Somali special forces) and its partners,” the statement read in part. The U.S. carried out 63 airstrikes against al-Shabaab in 2019 and 53 airstrikes in 2020. Another seven airstrikes were launched in the first two-and-a-half weeks of 2021, before former U.S. President Donald Trump left office.
