Opposition Candidates Welcome Dismissal of Controversial Deputy Spy Chief

Somali opposition candidates have welcomed Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble's move to fire the controversial NISA Deputy Chief of Intelligence on Friday. In a statement, the opposition candidates braced the decision by the Prime Minister to remove Deputy Chief of Intelligence Abdullahi Kullane and NISA Commander at Aden Adde International Airport Abdiwahab Sheikh, who, according to the statement, were denied entry citizens at the airport. ''Because of the difficult situation in the country and the transitional situation of the elections, the council calls on all branches of government and the people of Somalia to work together to uphold the constitution and the rule of law and avoid anything that could lead to conflict and delays,'' the statement read in part. They also called on the incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to refrain from violating the country's constitution and his continued interference in the country's process and to hold free and fair elections on time. On Friday Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble fired Deputy Chief of Intelligence Abdullahi Kullane, NISA Chief of staff and Abdiwahab Ali, head of NISA at Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle Airport. The move by the premier came a day after federal legislator Mahad Salad accused Abdullahi Kulane and intelligence chief Fahad Yassin of organising a plot in which a young female employee was assassinated.
