Several arrested after search operations in Mogadishu
Somali government forces have conducted house-to-house search operations in some neighbourhoods in the Somali capital Mogadishu to heighten security ahead of the upcoming election. Heavily armed forces involved in the security check operations which began Sunday night. The operations were carried out in Warta Nabadda district and areas near Villa Somalia. According to residents the forces raided houses and arrested scores of people mostly young. “The Somali forces entered the houses and arrested some people, they were also on streets checking cars and passersby,” a resident told Dalsan adding that several of suspects were arrested. The move by the security forces comes a day after several mortar shells on Saturday were fired in the vicinity of the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
