Al-Shabaab Commander Killed In Middle Shabelle Region

The Somali National Army (SNA) has killed Al-Shabaab commander in an operation in the Middle Shabelle region, a military official confirmed. Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, Somali National Army Chief, told military radio that the army conducted a planned operation on Sunday in Yabal and Daresalam villages in southern Somalia and inflicted casualties on the militants. "Our forces killed a senior Shabab militant in the operation aimed flushing out the militants," Odawaa said. The militant commander identified as Mohamed Abdi Suubiye "Toosow" was in charge of Middle Shabelle according to Gen. Odawaa. Somali government forces have intensified operations against al-Shabab in southern regions, but the militants still control some rural areas in those regions, conducting ambushes and planting landmines. On Sunday 15 al-Shabaab militants were killed and dozens wounded following heavy clashes in an area near Dhusamareb town in Galmudug state.
