Somalia's Lower Shabelle Governor praises AMISOM for improving security in Marianguwaay

Lower Shabelle Governor has stated joint operations by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Somali National Army (SNA) had weakened the Al-Shabaab. Lower Shabelle Governor Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Sidi said the joint operations made Somali Security Forces take over security responsibilities.  "AMISOM has achieved a lot for us, and the Somali army's takeover of security is the result of the efforts and sacrifices of our AMISOM allies who have been fighting al-Shabaab for over a decade," he said. Remarks by the governor came after the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers relocated from Marianguwaay base in Lower Shabelle region in the Southwest State of Somalia as part of troop realignment to provide more effective security to the Main Supply Routes, and the general area. Since 2014, AMISOM troops have jointly operated in the general area of Marianguwaay, significantly improving the security situation of the area before the need to take up security responsibilities elsewhere in line with the ongoing AMISOM and SNA Reconfiguration Plan and the revised Concept of Operations (CONOPS) 2018-2021.
