Former Jubaland Security Minister Travels to Ethiopia For The First Time Since Defection
Former Jubaland Security Minister has travelled to the Ethiopian capital Adisaba for the first time since he surrendered to the federal government. Abdirashid Janan was accompanied by federal government Minister of Transport Abdirahman Kulmiye Dheere and other government dignitaries and are expected to meet officials from Ethiopia to discuss the situation in Gedo. The trip by the Janan comes days after the federal government lodged a complaint with the Security Council against the Kenyan government over its shelling of the Gedo region. Ethiopia shares a long and porous border with Somalia contributes around 4,000 of the 17,000 troops under the AU and has around 15,000 additional soldiers in Somalia. Janan surrendered to the central government after an agreement with the federal government in March 2021. Human rights groups including Amnesty International called on the federal government to arrest and ensure justice and accountability for all the alleged human rights violations he committed by Janan.
