10 killed, 20 injured in suicide bombing at military camp in Mogadishu
At least 10 people were killed in a suicide bombing at a military training camp during an army recruitment exercise in Mogadishu on Tuesday, officials confirm. Somali Army chief Brigadier General Odawaa Yusuf Rageh said the 20 others were also wounded in the attack in General Dhago Badan army training camp in Mogadishu. ''We have lost 10 youths who wanted to join the armed forces as they were waiting to be searched,'' Somali Army chief Gen. Odawaa Yusuf Rageh said. Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack online. Al-Shabab which aims to topple Somalia’s government and impose its own harsh interpretation of Islamic law controlled were driven out of Mogadishu by Somali troops, backed by African Union soldiers. Despite the loss of territory, Al-Shabab still carries out major gun-and-bomb attacks, often claiming casualty numbers that conflict with those given by government officials. In recent days, Somali National Army intensified operations continue pushing the group from villages in successive military operations.
