Somalia Calls On Kenya To Re-Open Mogadishu Embassy

Somalia has urged Kenya to reopen its embassy in Mogadishu just days after Nairobi announced it will reopen its airspace for flights to and from Somalia, In a statement, Somalia reiterated its decision to normalise relations. "The resumption of full diplomatic relations will be a positive start to the commencement of bilateral discussions between the two nations.” The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement. Nairobi on Thursday said it will reopen its airspace for flights to and from Somalia without giving any reason, a move welcomed by Mogadishu. Nairobi suspended all flights to and from Somalia in May. The suspension did not affect medical and evacuation flights and those operating under the United Nations humanitarian missions. Somalia in December 2020 severed its diplomatic ties with Kenya after Uhuru Kenyatta held bilateral talks with a delegation from Somaliland led by President Muse Bihi.
