Over 40,000 High School Students To Commence National Exams In Somalia Today

Over 40,000 secondary school students in Somalia will commence their national examinations on Saturday, 29th, May, the Education ministry confirmed. The exams will be conducted across the capital and four federal states - Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Southwest, and Jubbaland states. Hundreds of Security forces deployed to different exam centres to enhance the security of the students and thwart attacks. Director-General of the Ministry of Education Mohamed Aabi Hassan said out of the 42,000 students 26,688 are from the Benadir region. "The exams are scheduled to kick off on Saturday," Mr. Hassan said. Dozens of invigilators and supervisors have been tasked to supervise the exams according to Mr. Hassan. Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Education wants to have a standardized test for all schools across the country, but some regional administration authorities have resisted. Puntland recently seated 17,735 students in recent days for their exam.
