One Arrested As Police Launch Investigations Following Hand-grenade Attack On Hirshabelle Parliament

One suspect was arrested following a joint operation by police and special forces Haramcad in Johwar following an overnight hand grenade attack on the Hirshabelle Parliament building. A member of parliament who was in the parliamentary building which is located opposite the Jowhar Police Station at the time of attack confirmed no casualties. No more information was immediately released by security agencies over the incident which took place Monday night. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Al-Shabaab militants have carried out attacks in the past. Since 2006 the militant group is fighting to overthrow the central government. Jowhar town is the administrative capital of Hirshabelle State in Somalia and it is located 90 kilometres north of the capital Mogadishu. The region has not been experiencing attacks from Al-Shabaab in the recent past.
