Ten killed in HirShabelle clashes

At least 10 people were killed and several others wounded when fierce fighting between the government forces and local militias took place in Somalia's HirShabelle on Wednesday. The fight began after local militias known as Ma'awisley attacked security in Jowhar the capital of HirShabelle state prompting heavy clashes. The local militias reportedly wanted to free their leader from prison. In an interview with Dalsan TV Dini Roble Ahmed, HirShabelle police spokesman said last week they arrested a man was collected tax from vehicles in Jowhar. ''The people who attacked the police station and the checkpoint are AlShabaab. Ma'awisley are known to fight the enemy, not the residence and the government,'' said Hirshabelle policeman Dini Roble Ahmed. Among those killed in the clashes include Somali military and civilians.
