FGS-FMS consultative talks to kick off in Mogadishu

A closed meeting between the federal government and the regional state leaders is expected to kick off in the capital Mogadishu on Thursday. The meeting will be attended by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, his prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble, leaders of Puntland, Jubaland, Southwest, Hirshabelle, and Galmudug state, Saed Abdullahi Deni, Abdiaziz Hassan Laftagaren, Ali Gudlawe, Ahmed Abdi Qooqor respectively as well as Mogadishu mayor Omar Filish. Galmudug State leader Ahmed Kahiye QoorQoor is the only regional state president who arrived in Mogadishu for the poll talks while the other remaining leaders are expected to arrive today. The meeting will focus on contentious issues including the electoral process dispute. Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble who is leading the election process assigned by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo on Wednesday expressed his expectations on the electoral talks ahead to be successful. ''As we are fully prepared for the National Consultative Conference on Elections, I am optimistic that it commences smoothly and ends satisfactorily so that the country goes to transparent, free and fair elections,'' PM Roble said in Twitter post. The Council of Presidential Candidates which consists of 14 presidential aspirants on Wednesday called for the talks to be more inclusive to end differences and reach a consensus concerning the election process. Somalia was expected to hold its elections last year but the leaders of the federal government and regional state had disagreed over the electoral process after series of talks in Dhusamareb the headquarters of Galmudug state and in Mogadishu.
