Benadir region police commissioner dies of wounds following Al-Shabaab attack

The Benadir region police commissioner has died after being badly wounded in an al-Shabaab attack last week, police confirmed. Somali police spokesman Sadaq Adan Ali said the commissioner died on Saturday night at Digfer hospital where he was receiving treatment after the attack on 09 May. Gen. Ahmad Abdi Wehliye, the Benadir region police commissioner, was wounded after a suicide bomber targeted Waberi police station killing at least six people, including two senior law enforcement officers last week. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by al-Shabaab, who have waged a deadly insurgency against the western-backed government in Mogadishu. Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble sent his condolences to the family and members of the Somali Police Force on the passing of the Deputy Commander of the Benadir Regional Police, Ahmed Abdi "May God have mercy on Col. Ahmed Abdi (Waweyne), the deputy commander of the Benadir Regional Police who died from injuries sustained in the terrorist attack on the Waberi district police station,'' prime minister Roble ''I send my condolences to his family and the Somali Police Force," he added.
