Former Somali Presidents meet in Mogadishu

The former presidents of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday night held a private meeting in Mogadishu. The two leaders discussed the latest political situation and ways to resolve the political crisis in the country ahead of elections. During their meeting, the two former presidents discussed the completion of the implementation of the agreement reached by the Somali leaders led by the caretaker Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on election issues. The two leaders also discussed the preparation of the national election conference scheduled for 20 May in Mogadishu. The meeting between the former presidents was attended by members of the federal Parliament and officials of their parties. It comes as preparations are underway for a national election conference convened by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to bring together regional leaders to resolve the country’s electoral impasse.
