Madobe, Deni Reject Qatari Mediation, Decline Meet With Doha Delegation

Regional state leaders of Puntland and Jubaland who rejected to meet with Qatari special envoy Majed al-Qahtani have once again turned down a suggestion to meet the envoy in Garowe and Kismayo. The two regional state leaders Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Madobe have previously rejected travel to Mogadishu or Nairobi to meet the Qatari envoy. The state leaders of Puntland and Jubaland reportedly turned down a suggestion to meet Qatari especial envoy Majed al-Qahtani in Garowe and Kismayo. It is not yet clear why they rejected to meet with al-Qahtani was holding talks with Somali political stakeholders in the country. Former Somali president and opposition presidential candidates' chairman Sheikh Sharif Ahmed is also reported to have refused to meet Qatar delegates in Mogadishu. Jubaland and Puntland previously accused Qatar of being bias in the ongoing efforts to resolve the election stalemate in the country. The Qatari delegation led by Qatar special envoy Majed al-Qahtani on Saturday arrived in the Horn of the African nation on an unofficial visit and held bilateral talks with Somaliland president Muse Bihi. The envoy talks with Somali political leaders including Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and opposition leaders. The opposition previously accused Doha of supporting incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo but the government has distanced itself from the claims.
