Jubaland Demands Farmaajo Relinquish Powers To PM Roble As Condition For Poll Talks

Jubaland State of Somalia has set a condition to participating in the upcoming talks to find a solution for the current electoral crisis in the Horn of African nation. Speaking to BBC Somali service Jubaland State Information Minister Abdi Hussein said that the regional state will only participate in the dialogue after Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble is handed over the national security. “We would not participate in any upcoming election conference until Farmaajo hands over the National Security issues to the Prime Minister,” Abdi Hussein said. Addressing the parliament incumbent Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo tasked Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble with leading preparation, implementation and security of upcoming elections. Prime Minister Roble on Sunday evening called for a consultative meeting with the heads of regional administrations and the Benadir region on the country’s election issues. The Prime Minister called the state leaders to return to the negotiation table on May 20th, 2021. President Farmaajo's mandate expired in February but no vote has been held because of regional disputes over how power is distributed with both the regional and the federal government blaming each other for collapsed talks.
