PM Roble orders army to return to bases

Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has ordered the Somali National Army to return to their bases and not get involved in politics. In a televised statement on Saturday night Roble urged Somali politicians to avoid inflammatory statements which could plunge the country into another crisis and warned the military against mixing in politics. ''I order the military to return their bases and distance themselves from politics,'' he said. The Prime Minister also said he will appoint a committee to investigate the matter. The remarks by Prime Minister Roble comes barely a week after between forces loyal to the government and others angry at president Farmaajo in Mogadishu. The violence between the military forced up to 100,000 people to flee their homes in Mogadishu, according to a statement to the United Nations. The UN said those displaced include vulnerable internally displaced persons who had sought refuge in the Somali capital but have again fled to find refuge at the outskirts of Mogadishu. “I am extremely concerned about the deteriorating security situation in Mogadishu,” said Cesar Arroyo, the acting humanitarian coordinator for Somalia. “Apart from displacing innocent civilians, the initial violence has created uncertainty and fear of disruptions of humanitarian assistance to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people across the city.”.
