Somalia Opposition Reject Farmaajo's Invite

The opposition leaders have turned down a request by incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo for a meeting at Villa Somalia on Saturday night. The leaders of Hirshabelle and Galmudug states who were carrying a message from President Farmaajo met with the opposition leaders who were demanded to come clear about their position on Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament’s decision to extend the federal government’s term for two years. According to sources close to the meeting, Abdirahman Abdishakur walked out of the meeting after the two regional state leaders informed CPC leaders about the president's invitation to Villa Somalia to discuss unspecified issues. This comes after President Mohamed Abdullahi held talks with the international community representatives at Afisyoni where FGS and FMS polls talks were happening. EU and UN diplomats have warned incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of severe consequences including sanctions and Visa restrictions if he does not reverse the approval of the mandate extension vote. Last week Somalia's lower house of parliament voted to extend the term of the president and his government by two years.
