Joe Biden to appoint new ambassador to Somalia
The US President Joe Biden has on Wednesday announced that he had nominated Larry Edward André Jr as the Ambassador to Somalia.
André was a former was a former ambassador to Djibouti since 2017 he also served as ambassador to Mauritania.
He was also the Special Representative for Sudan and South Sudan to the United States. He served as deputy director of the US Office for Africa.
André speaks two of the predominant languages of West Africa: French and Wolof.
He is to replace Donald Yamamoto who was appointed by former US President Donald Trump in 2018.
His appointment comes at a time when the US withdrew its military presence in Somalia.
