Somalia reports 271 new COVID-19 cases as positivity rate remains high
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Somalia edged towards 13,000 after 271 new people tested positive for COVID-19 as the country continues battling a second wave of infections.
The country now has a total of 12,837 COVID-19 cases.
76 patients have recovered from the disease pushing the total number of recoveries to 5,346.
32 people have succumbed to the virus raising the total number of fatally to 656.
Somalia received 200,000 doses of Chinese vaccine assisted by the Chinese government on Tuesday.
The vaccine manufactured by Sinopharm, a Chinese owned company was received by health Minister Fawzia Abikar Nur at Aden Adde international Airport.
Chinese ambassador to Somalia Qin Jian and embassy staff received the first Chinese made vaccine jabs at De-martini Hospital on Wednesday.
The vaccines fully demonstrated the sincere friendship between the Chinese and Somali people according to the Somalia Qin Jian.
