$200M Jowhar-Mogadishu Rd Qatari Project To Boost Agri-Economy
Residents of the city of Jowhar will now have a reason to smile following the commence of Jowhar-Mogadishu road cutting across different towns and is expected to open up rural areas. The 90-kilometre road linking Mogadishu to the agricultural land of Jowhar will come a long way in transporting farm produce for the residents most of whom practice farming. ''This being new construction we are doing the earth-work, sub-base and surfacing which will be asphalt concrete and surface grading,'' said one of the engineers who asked to remain anonymous. According to the residents, the construction of the road will help cut the amount of time spent in the transportation of agricultural produce to Mogadishu. The project is expected to ease movement and speed up the transportation of agricultural commodities. In 2017 Somalia inked a $ 200 million infrastructure deal with Qatar. Some of the key aspects of the project included the 90 kilometres road linking Mogadishu to the agricultural towns of Jowhar and Afgooye.
