Covid-19 kills 17 more people in Somalia as cases reach 10,838

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Somalia rose to 10,838 after 174 people tested positive as the second wave continues to hit the horn of African nation. The Health Ministry also announced 17 new virus-related fatalities recorded in the same period, bringing the total number of deaths to 488. Somalia's virus Covid-19 has continued to balloon steady, with a considerable hike in new daily infections since the mid of February. The increase prompted the Ministry of Health to declare that a second wave is hitting the country. Mid this month, Somalia received 300 000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility to protect frontline workers and elderly people with chronic health conditions from COVID-19. The following day, the country rolled out vaccines for COVID-19 in many parts of the capital and other areas.
