15 Opposition Mps Banned From Attending Monday Parliament Session

Somalia's Lower house Speaker Mohamed Mursal banned 15 opposition MPs from participating in the Monday term extension session following the involvement in the chaotic scenes in parliament on Saturday. The MPs were accused of obstructing Saturday‚Äôs planned session at Parliament. Five of the lawmakers are suspended from attending the next 5 sessions of the Lower House of Parliament according to a statement from the Lower House. ''Somalia‚Äôs Speaker of Parliament suspends 15 lawmakers from attending the next 5 sessions of the Lower House of Parliament. The MPs rioted and obstructed Saturday‚Äôs Parliament session on Covid-19,'' State media said in a tweet. On Saturday Somali parliamentary session was called off after brawls between pro-government opposition MPs erupted. The agenda was COVID-19 but opposition legislators claimed the agenda included term extension. Somalia was scheduled to hold parliamentary elections last year December and presidential elections in February 2021 as leaders are still yet to implement the 17 Sept pact between regional state leaders and the federal government after numerous talks.
