Turkey Offers To Resolve Somalia Polls Impasse

Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that Turkey supports Somalia in resolving the issues surrounding the holding of elections in Somalia. During an interview, the Minister conversed about many issues, including the upcoming elections in Somalia. Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also said his government was ready to bring the parties together to resolve their long-running standoff. Mr. Çavuşoğlu says he plans to visit Somalia in the coming days. "In the coming days we are planning a trip to Somalia to strengthen our support and we will move on," said the Turkish Foreign Minister. The Turkish government has been providing comprehensive support to the Somali government, particularly in the areas of military training, education and development. Last month Turkey expressed concern over unrest in Somalia as tension rose due to the delayed polls in the horn of the African nation. “We are concerned about the recent negative developments arising from the dispute over the election process in Somalia,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement
