Somali Military Kills 25 Al-Shabaab fighters in operation
Somali National Army (SNA) killed 25 Al-Shabaab fighters in an operation conducted in Lower Shabelle and Middle Shabelle regions. Gen. Odawa Yusuf Rageh, the chief of Somalia’s army, told military-run radio service, the troops destroyed the Al-Shabaab base in the Ballow area and a heavy gun battle that lasted several hours left 15 militants wounded. "Our troops have attacked conducted operation in areas under Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle killed and destroyed their bases between Afgoye district and Bal'ad, '' Gen. Odawa told SNA Radio. Gen. Odawa added the militants were planning to use a base to conduct ambushes and attacks against the SNA. Al-Shabaab militants have not commented on the attack. Al-Qaida-allied Al-Shabab was driven out of the capital Mogadishu in 2011, but it is still in control of rural areas in central and southern regions, conducting ambushes and planting landmines.
