Somalia Chamber of Commerce Dissolved As Hormuud Telecom Takes Charge of Controversial Interim Committee
Somali Government dissolved the chamber of commerce and formed a temporary committee . The temporary committee would be lead by Chief Executive Officer of Hormuud Salaam Foundation Abdullahi Osman. In a statement, Trade and Industry Minister, Khalif Abdi Omar announced the dissolution stating that the decision came after a constant of complaints from traders and complications of commerce. He has announced a new team which will be led by Abdullahi Osman from Hormuud Telecom to run the chamber. The minister said his ministry will soon start the process to form leadership for the chamber and appointment will be conducted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The Chamber has rejected the decision and indicated that the chamber is an independent body and the government has no power to dissolve it. It is not yet clear if the president consulted His Prime Minister and ministers on the decision or not. This is the second time that the chambers of commerces has been dissolved. It was dissolved by former minister Khadra Ahmed Duale on September 2017.
