Mogadishu-Afgooye road to be completed in 2 weeks- Mogadishu Mayor
The Qatari funded road construction linking Mogadishu and Afgooye will be completed in two weeks time, Mogadishu Mayor Omar Mohamud Filish has said. The mayor of Mogadishu said construction of the road is nearing completion and will be completed within two weeks. '' Tonight we came to inspect the construction of the road linking Mogadishu to Jowhar and Mogadishu to Afgooye and will be completed within one to two weeks time,'' Mogadishu Mayor Omar Filish said. The Mayor called on the public to protect the road, which is important for the movement of people and vehicles. The works were suspended after a car bomb attack killed two Turkish engineers and injured 11 other people among them four Turkish nationals in January but resumed under alert level 3 on July this year. The federal government is now making significant efforts to rebuild key roads in Mogadishu that have been in ruins for a long time. The Qatar funded project which runs 120 kilometres once completed is billed as a major reconstruction project undertaken by the current administration. The Qatari Investment Authority signed the $200 million road construction project with the Somali government in November 2017. The project covers the construction of the roads linking Mogadishu to Jowhar and Mogadishu to Afgooye.
