Security forces heighten security in Garowe ahead of annual forum for ideas

Security forces in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland are conducting widespread search operations to heighten security ahead of the Hips Institute annual Forum. Heavily armed forces involved in the security check operations which began on Saturday. The forces raided hundreds of businesses and vehicles in the town. The vehicles were being searched by security forces, and military officials said the purpose of the operation was to ensure security. The Heritage Institute's Annual Sharing Forum is expected to open on Tuesday, May 29, with the participation of government officials, regional governments and the opposition candidates. The conference seeks vital ideas on how the country can move out of the protracted transition in 2025. The Speakers of both Houses of the Somali Parliament Abdi Hashi Abdillahi and Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman and Presidential candidate Dahir Mohamud Guelleh arrived in Garowe yesterday, and other leaders are expected to arrive in Garowe later today
