Somalia announces election budget

Somalia's Minister of finance Abdirahman Duale Beileh has announced funds planned to be spent on the upcoming elections. Speaking on national television, Minister said that the cost of completing the election will be shared by the international community and the government on the 27th of this month to prepare the election fund valued at $ 40 million, with the government providing 10% which is equivalent to $ 4 million. "The money is allocated for a wide range of electoral activities, such as trips to election commissions at the federal and state levels, residences, employment offices, mission training and staff salaries," Minister Beyle said. Minister Beileh said the government would not misuse funds allocated for the elections. "There will be no money other than that to be used for the election, and it cannot happen. The minister cannot even withdraw money from the state treasury because the financial system is against it," Beyle said.
