Somali military rescue 40 children from Alshabab in operation
Somali national army (SNA) have rescued 40 children from Alshabab militants in an operation conducted in villages under the recently liberated Barire town in lower Shabelle region. The commander of 143th Battalion of Somali military, Ahmed Hassan Siyad who spoke to the military media said sixteen militants were killed and injured several others in the operation aimed at flushing out the militants in the area. 'The children were taken away from their families to be recruited as soldiers and were freed in the operation,'' said Siyad. Last month the Somali military rescued 32 children who were allegedly taken by the militants as recruits in middle Shabelle region. Al-Shabaab has waged a war against Somalia’s central government for several years in a bid to oust it and establish its own rule based on a strict interpretation of Islam’s sharia law.
