Somali Police intensify crackdown on Alcohol
Police in Galkayo in the semi-autonomous region of Galmudug destroyed over 400 bottles of alcohol and bhang in a crackdown. This comes barely three days after security forces seized a vehicle carrying 124 bottles of illicit Alcohol in Adado town. The operation spearheaded by the Galmudug police Commissioner Qasim Shirdon Ali also saw police nab and destroy bottles of illicit Alcohol and burn bhang in a public area. The police boss urged the residents to continue cooperating with police by providing tips and inside information that will intensify their operations. The commissioner issued a stern warning to the people smuggling the Alcohol and drugs in the region saying: “Drastic action will be taken against people who will be found smuggling and selling alcohol and other drugs,'' “This raid marks the start of an operation for the next weeks aimed at clearing alcohol Galmudug state,” said Qasim. Police in Galmudug have intensified operations in the areas conducting raids to unearth alcohol and drugs. Somalia is a predominantly Muslim country with strict regulations on alcohol use. The country has a long coastal line making it a crucial player in sea transport.
