Puntland forces kill 10 Al-shabab fighters in an operation
The Puntland special forces killed 10 Alshabab militants after a heavy gunfight in a special operation conducted on Saturday in Gal-gala mountains in Puntland. Hussein Ali Mohamed police commissioner of Bari said the forces killed 10 Alshabab militants and captured three others alive. "During the operation the forces killed 10 militants and captured others and those captured will soon appear before the court,'' The police commissioner also said the operation will continue until the militants are wiped out of the area. Security operations have been mounted in Puntland in the past months leading to the death of many militants and destruction of bases and explosives. Alqaeda linked group Alshabab has been fighting in Somalia since 2008 to overthrow the internationally recognized central government. While the group has been chased away from the capital Mogadishu in 2011 but the militants still control swathes of rural areas in southern regions conducting ambushes and planting land mines.
