SNA, Alshabab in fierce gunfight in Bukol region

The Somalia National Army and Alshabab militants have exchanged heavy gunfire in  Bakol region. Sources told Dalsan Radio that the heavy fight started after Alshabab militants ambushed military base in Abal some 20 kilometres in Hudur district to the east of the Bakol region.

Both sides exchanged heavy and light weapons and could be heard from areas nearby.

It is reported that there could be casualties but the figures reported can not be independently verified.

AlQaeda affiliated Alshabab has fought to establish an Islamic state in Somalia since 2006.

The militants still control significant rural areas in Somalia.
