Minister Mareye Sparks Contoversy As He Declares All Deaths Henceforth As Covid19 Related
Somalia declares a rather controversial policy that every death occurence, whichever the cause, within its borrders will now be recorded as covid19 related as per Information Minister Somalia Information Minster Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareeye says all deaths in the country will henceforth attributed to Coronavirus Somalia Information minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Mareye) had caused an uproar after announcing that all new deaths in the country will be attributed to cornavirus. This announcement comes after medical personnel and cemetery attendants raised alarm over the increased number of deaths in recent days. Although official government numbers put the figures at 28, it is suspected the numbers could he higher as some people die without reaching health faculties. "People are saying they have Malaria others say they are dying of yellow fever, there is nothing of that sort whoever dies today the government of Somalia identifies that person has died as a result of Covid-19." Mogadishu Mayor Omar Filish also added his voice to the debate , saying the burial rates in the city had increased and that there are days the do close to 50 bodies in a single day. Meanwhile, the upward curve in the number of infection continued with 19 new cases bringing the total number of covid-19 to 601 while the number of the people who succumbed to death still remains at 28.
