President Farmajo meets Canada Prime Minister, pledges deeper cooperation between the two countries
Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi has held a meeting with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which they discussed a raft of issues. The two leaders on the sidelines of the 33rd African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Canadian leader lauded the deep people-to-people ties between Canada and Somalia. The two pledged to build upon these ties to increase economic and other forms of cooperation between the two countries. They also discusses regional peace and security challenges, further to Canada’s role as 2020 Chair of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission. They also discussed peacekeeping and counter-terrorism efforts in the region. The Prime Minister spoke about Canada‘s enhanced development engagement in Somalia with a focus on governance, gender equality and women’s empowerment. They also discussed debt sustainability.
