FESOJ concludes its General Assembly and elected new management team
Somalia Journalist umbrella union has picked new officials and changed its name after the conclusion of this years' annual general meeting. The delegates from various regions congregated at the Royal Place Hotel in Mogadishu, Somalia, in the meeting with came up with a raft of measures including the change of name from the National Union of Journalists of Somalia to the Federation of Somalia Journalists (FESOJ). The 77 member delegates picked new office bearers, with Abaadir Abdulkadir Elmi being elected chairman. Muhudin Husni was elected as the First Deputy Chairman ,while Abdifatah Hassan Farah was elected as the second Chairman. Veteran journalist Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu was elected as the Secretary General Abdirahman Said Ahmed, Judge from Banadir regional court observing the FESOJ election process hailed and described the procedure as impartial process of electing new management team. Mr.Abdi Muse Mohamed from Finish Foundation for Media Development (VIKES) attending the opening session said that he is very pleased and honored to see this election process take place, urged FESOJ to continue its activities and pledged that VIKES will continue to work with the newly elected team. Mohamed Deeq Abdalle , Director of Radio SBC speaking on behalf of the delegates electing the new governing team said: “It’s better to make independent change, avoid corruption ,favoritism and elect good and effective team. At the sidelines of the meeting, SOMA delegates approved the financial policy and procedure manual and conduced presentation of the last two years financial statement for SOMA members for their necessary updating and reporting. SOMA also elected a governing team for the next three years has been conducted. Mohamed Osman Makaran, Director of Radio Hiran has been elected as Chairman, Ahmed Aidid Diriye, Director of Radio Sooyaal in Kismayo as Deputy Chairman and Mohamed Abduwahab Abdulahi , Director of Radio Risaala, Mogadishu as the Secretary General. Also, a new six – member Executive Committee has been elected from various regional areas including Puntland, Galmudug, South West and Mogadishu, Banadir region Representatives from IMS/FOJO, Radio Ergo, SOSCENSA, SWJ, SIMHA, NUSOJ and media outlets hwere observers of the free and fair election process for the new leaders of SOMA. The meeting has been concluded with distribution of SOMA membership certificates as appreciation for their efforts towards improving the Somali media houses and journalist.
