Puntland Issues Tough Measures On Weapon Possession Ahead of Polls
Somalia's Puntland regional state has banned the use and possession of unauthorized weapons ahead of January elections. On Tuesday Puntland Security Committee that brought together the Interior Minister and top security bosses announced the ban. Following the new directive Puntland Information Minister Abdi Hersi Ali called for the public to co-operate with security agencies during the coming elections. Puntland is set to hold it's elections on January 8 in 2019. Parts of the northwestern region has been a theatre of conflict between government forces, Alshabaab and Pro ISIS militants.
