Farmaajo-States Meet Fails To Take Off As PM Khaire Rejects Intern.Community Involvement

A meeting called by Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo failed to kick off on Monday after federal states leaders boycott. The meeting was slated for Monday and Tuesday to seek ways to resolve widening rift between the Federal government and regional states. A delegation from the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia led by Senator Ahmed Hashi Mohamoud arrived in the Jubaland administrative capital Kismayu on Monday. The delegates are expected to hold talks with Jubaland administration for mediation in the growing rift between and federal states and central government. The regional leaders had demanded for a third party to be involved in the meeting as one of their conditions to meet Farmaajo. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire however rejected calls by the international community in mediating the dispute between regional states and federal government. “Somalia now has the capacity and authority to solve disagreements in our country. We don’t need the international community to intervene in our problems,” PM Khaire said The leaders had also demanded for a "secure" venue for the planned National Security Council meeting. PM Khaire said that Mogadishu is safe to hold any meeting and that ot signified as a national symbol of unity. Regional leaders severed working relations with the Farmaajo government in a meeting held in Kismayu pointing out Mogadishu's interference in the state regions.
