Mogadishu On High Alert After Attack

Security has been beefed up in the Somali capital Mogadishu following the Friday Alshabaab attack that killed at least 45 people.

Well-armed government security forces with technical vehicles were seen at Police checkpoints in the city.

The area leading to the Presidential palace has been restricted and more security agents deployed.

Radio Dalsan reporter says security agents are vigilant and all vehicles including those belonging to top government officials are been checked.

In the Friday attack, the assailants were wearing brand new Somalia police uniform.

Meanwhile, a Somali lawmaker is punching holes at the government strategy to secure the capital.

Mohamud Abukate said the government does not manage well the few areas it controls. “One of the problems that face the public is that the main roads in the city are closed and vehicles are forced to use a narrow lane.

Then an explosion happens and the citizens perish there.

So we could not understand whether the citizens are gathered at one place and then killed like that or not” Mohamud Abukate said in an interview.

Friday attack targeted the Villa Somalia and a new upmarket hotel next to the Somalia intelligence agency NISA headquarters..
