Former President Of Somali TFG Abdiqasim Calls Up On The Government, Opposition To Work Towards Nation-Building

The former President of the Somali Transitional Federal Government that was formed in Arta, Djibouti, Dr Abdiqassim Salad Hassan has spoken about the country’s current situation and the hope for the country to stand on its own. Dr Abdiqassim who is based in Egypt first talked about the challenges faced by his regime saying that the level of destruction in the country is the reason why any attempt to move forward has to take some time. He called upon The Federal Government, Somali politicians and the general public to hold each other’s hands and work towards the strengthening of nationhood. He noted that the country has moved forward and is now different in many ways from the time of his leadership and urged the Federal Government and those of the regional states to manage the country well. Dr Abdiqassim told the opposition to come up with positive ideas and correct the government where it goes wrong but should not come up with destructive ideas. He also urged the government to respect and consult with its people, and the people should respect the government. “The benefits we gained since the Transition Federal Governments is that now Somalia got full recognition after its collapse as the country’s flag is flown at the United Nations Centre and other countries in the world and I now expects the country and its people to settle down. Every country that undergoes a collapse of government has to take time to recover from the consequences. People should forget tribalism and work towards building the Somali nation, which I have a hope we can achieve,” said Abdiqassim.
