Mayor Thabit Calls For  *Mogadishans Turn Up For Anti AlShabaab Demos As Group Remains Silent

Hundreds of protestors took to the streets of Mogadishu to protest Saturday  killings of more than 200 mostly civilians in an truck bombing. This was the first time in a long period that an anti AlShabaab demo had been staged in the Somali capital. "Its the ordinary civilian that were killed in the bombing. This is the highest number of deaths I have ever witnessed in Mogadishu. I am here to say no to killing of innocent people" Abukar Ali, 23, told Radio Dalsan at the protest. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack although in the past Somali militant group has been laying claim on similar bombings. Somalia is facing an insurgency from both Alshabaab and a splinter group which now claims allegiance to ISIS. Both have in the past been quick to claim attacks including minor ambushes and assassinations. Today's protests is an indicator of the gravity of Saturdays attack said to be the deadliest single attack on Somalia soil. Anti AlShabaab protests held in Mogadishu following the attack whose death toll now stands at 275. AlShabaab which in the past has been quick to claim responsibility in minor attacks is yet to issue a statement a day after the deadliest single attack with the highest number of civilian deaths
