Alshabaab Retakes Takora After KDF Withdrawal

Somali militant group Alshabaab is now in control of the strategic village of Takora after Kenyan troops withdrew from it, a resident confirmed to Radio Dalsan on Monday. Alshabaab affiliated websites also confirmed that the military group had taken control of Takora in Gedo region. KDF withdrawal came five days after it pulled out of another Gedo town Bardheere. Bardheere is now solely under the Ethiopians and Somali National Army troops. Neither Amisom nor KDF have explained why the troops withdrew. A KDF source said the troops may be headed closer to Kenya Somali border most likely El Wak. Takora and Bardheere were taken in a sustained offensive in 2015.
