SW President Shariif Blocks MPs To Avoid Impeachment
Mps in the regional state of South West have been blocked from flying to Baidoa as one of the measures taken by the region's President to avoid impeachment. Shariif was on a tour of United Arab Emirates to declare support to the Saudi led coalition against Qatar. He arrived in Nairobi from Abu Dhabi on Sunday night enroute to Baidoa to tackle rising dissenting voices among the MPs. A source told Radio Dalsan that Shariif was aware of plans by MPs to impeach him while he was out of the country. On Saturday South West authority jailed 3 politicians linked to plans to have Shariif impeached. A source told Radio Dalsan on condition of anonymity that Shariif used his influence to order airlines not to board MPs to the region's headquarter Baidoa. Most of the MPs are based in Mogadishu at the moment. Shariif has been in talks with UAE over the expansion and modernisation of Barawe port. Somalia has taken a neutral stand on the Gulf crisis.
