Is Farmaajo & Kheyre Divided Over The Qatar Crisis ?

President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmaajo and his PM Hassan Khayre may be facing their first political difference as it emerges that the two are holding opposing views about the Qatar crisis. Sources close to PM Office indicate that Khayre is alligned towards Saudi Arabia. According to one source the Prime Minister together with a number of Ministers aee opinion that siding with Saudi Arabia may be of more benefit to the interest of Somalia. President Farmaajo has been seen to be leaning towards Qatar despite a statement from the Foreign Affairs Minister claiming that Somalia remains neutral. Farmaajo is said to have had links with Doha prior to his presidency. The new chief of staff Fahad Yassin an wz Aljazeera Arabic correspondent and Farmaajo's campaign manager is said to be the linkman between Doha and the President. There has been shuttle diplomacy by both Riyadh and Doha seeking to win over Somalia on their side. On Sunday a Qatari delegation led by State Minister Foreign Affairs Sultan Bin Saad Al Muraikhi was in Mogadishu on a charming offensive to have Mogadishu side with it in the ongoing Gulf Crisis. The visit follows that one of a special envoy sent by Saudi Arabia King Salman. On Thursday Saudi Arabia failed to convince a visiting Somalia Ministers delegation to back out of its neutral stance. A $60000 aid pledge by Saudi Arabia expected to be signed by the Ministers was reversed by Riyadh. Somali Ministers returned home empty handed. Speaking to VOA the Somalia envoy to Saudi Arabia Dahir Geele said the delegation was not treated as he had expected. Meanwhile back in Mogadishu it remains to be seen how far the emerging difference in diplomatic opinion in the face of the Qatar crisis will affect the PM Office and Villa Somalia.
