New Mogadishu Mayor Thabit Bids Farewell To Washington DC

Staff of the Somali Embassy in Washington DC and Somali nationals living in the US on Monday bid farewell to diplomat Thabit Mohamed as he headed back home in a new capacity as the Mayor of Mogadishu. Thabit who served as the Deputy Chief of Mission for two years thanked the staff of the Embassy for their continued support.   "Thanks to the wonderful @SomaliEmbDC colleagues and friends for the memorable farewell" Thabit later tweeted On Saturday President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaaji appointed him as the new Mayor of Mogadishu.   Thabit worked as an independent Political Advisor to Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations in the region.   From the year 2013 to 2014 Mohamed served as the Acting Chief of Staff as well as Deputy Chief of Staff and Operations Manager at the Office of the President in Somalia. He takes over from Mohamed Madaale as the Mayor of Mogadishu
