Mogadishu airport workers go on strike

Employees of Favori LLC, the Turkish handling company that manages Aden Adde International Airport went on strike Monday morning over grievances relating to salary issues, as some of the striking workers revealed to Radio Dalsan. Some of the employees could be seen rallying outside the Favori company offices, early Monday morning. The director of civil aviation agency of Somalia, Mohamed Aden Jim’ale Kofi told local media that the misunderstanding between employees and the company management had been resolved. “The striking employees and the board of Favori have held a meeting at the airport and agreed to resolve the problem. They have managed to reach an agreement and we will continue to work with both sides”, Mohamed said. In 2013, the Turkish based company, Favori LLC officially took over the administration of Mogadishu's Aden Abdulle International Airport from Dubai based SKA Air and Logistics, which had been managing the operations of the airport since 2010. This followed the passing of a motion by Somali cabinet to replace the former handling company with Favori LLC, despite opposition from a section of Somali legislators.
